Camping Ground Fees and Prices

Although the National Park Service (NPS), was considering charging overnight camping fees, they were not sure if it would be feasible to implement such a program. On Sept. 26, 1969, Luis A. Gastellum wrote to NPCS Administrator George B. Hartzog, Jr. with concerns about the proposed fee program. He urged the agency not to abandon the idea in his letter. The resulting debate continued until March 1970, when a congressional directive was issued for the implementation of fees.

Private campgrounds don't get tax dollars, so they charge visitors' fees. The fee covers the costs of visiting visitors and is therefore necessary. Most campgrounds agree that visitors should be charged for the services they receive. If you're visiting a popular campground, be prepared to pay a higher price for overnight accommodations. In some cases, you can negotiate a lower rate, but be prepared to pay more than you would otherwise.

Some campgrounds offer seniors free camping. However, they must adhere to government regulations. A senior citizen can camp with up to four spouses and four children, but a group picnic, backcountry, marine fees, and day-use fees still apply. A second vehicle must also be allowed to park at the same spot and pay half the fee. You must also have a valid tag for the additional vehicle. For a week, a resident will pay more to park in a state-owned park.

If you can't afford to pay more for an RV park, consider staying at a campground without the luxury of resort amenities. Smaller RV parks are often cheaper and offer more amenities than larger RV parks. Although prices are lower, there will still be a place for you to park your RV. If you're prepared to compromise certain amenities, this could be a great alternative. You may even save money on the extra cost for amenities.

Camping pitches cost for two people, a car and a unit. There is no charge for an awning, but some campsites do. Glimmerglass allows six adults to use its site, and nine children. Site #165 is for two adults and five children. A cabin will cost you more, but it is worth asking the campground in advance about any amenities.

There are many factors that affect the cost of camping. Popular campgrounds will assign each camper their own space. The rates for these sites are usually between 15 and 30 dollars per night. Sometimes groups will need to be broken up in high seasons. The number of people in the group will determine the cancellation fee. You must also check the rules and regulations of the park before arriving.
