Mike Vilhauer's story

Mike Vilhauer was lost for seven days while fishing in California. He had lost his way and had started heading back too late, so he huddled under a pine tree for protection from the sun. He was hungry the next day and had lost his way so he started drinking from puddles. He continued walking around circles trying to find a way to escape the city.

Mike was exhausted after five days hiking in the mountains. He had a realization. He wrote a letter explaining his predicament to his family and apologizing. He saw the helicopter from above on the morning, Aug. 10. He swung his arms in the air to attract the attention of the pilot, who spotted him and alerted the search and rescue crews to his location. Eight to nine rescuers were dispatched from different counties, including Nevada. The story was also broadcast on national television.

Adrian Knopps' story

After a brutal bear hunt, Adrian Knopps was left alone in Alaskan wilderness for seven days. This is the incredible story of wilderness survival. Knopps needed help after he and his friend had been separated. Knopps' partner had run off into the rife, leaving him alone and surrounded by bears and wolf packs. He was falling into hypothermia, hallucination and was being battered by 70-mph winds. Coast Guard officials stated that they'd not seen anyone survive in such harsh wilderness conditions.

Knopps was soaked to his bones by the torrential rains. Although he was unable to walk due to hypothermia, he never lost faith. The Coast Guard reached out and flew to his aid. Knopps was left with severe hypothermia, hallucinations, and swollen joints and feet, but he never lost faith. He considers it an unfortunate accident that occurred without apparent cause.

FAQ

What amount of supplies should I have saved for a day?

Ideally, you would like to have three months' worth of supplies stored away. This means that you should have enough food, water, or other necessities to last three months.

However, the number of people who can help you depends on the extent of your emergency. In remote areas, there may not be any neighbors nearby who could help you. You might not have a power source.

You should prepare for a long-term situation in that instance.

My survival gear should be stored where?

It is best to keep your emergency survival gear near you so it is easily accessible in the event of an emergency. A closet or under your beds is the best place to store supplies.

Label all of your supplies with date and contents. This will help you identify which items you've used.

Also, keep a copy of your inventory somewhere else too. You will need to prove that the correct stuff was there in case something happens to your apartment or house.

What should I buy first when prepping?

Be sure to have enough water for everyone during your trip. They are very important!

You also want to make sure you have plenty of sunscreen lotion. It doesn't really matter if your destination is hiking or the beach, you will still need sunscreen lotion.

You should also remember to bring extra batteries for any electronics. Last but not least, make sure to pack a few sunglasses. You won't know how much glare there will be until you get there.
